We had the cod & chips special which came with slaw and a drink. The cod was a fair sized portion (I was told the filet was 5 ounces). The batter was nice and crisp without being too heavy. In the thickest part of the filet, the batter was a bit greasy, otherwise it was very nice. I believe the fish was previously frozen as it was a bit mushy, on the whole however, I was very happy with the fish.
The chips were a little thinner than most chip shops, they were from small potatoes and a few got slightly overdone for my tastes. Otherwise it was a solid order.
The slaw was finely shredded and had the tang of an oil and vinegar slaw, yet was mayo based. It seems to be a bit of a hybrid. The tartar sauce was house made and was simply mayo, sweet relish and mustard. Nothing wrong with it (it's basically how I make my own). I use dill relish or finely diced pickle which is more my preference (a bit more tang).
Always courteous, clean and delicious. This is one of my favourite places to sit in Whitby. The guy who owns this shop is so friendly I can't help but be in a good mood around him. The batter is non-hydrogenated, 0 trans-fat and DELICIOUS. I've tried everything there. The salads, the wraps, the halibut, fries, sweet potato fries, souvlaki, the BANQUET BURGER! MMM, the burger is his own mother's home made recipe! If I budget allowed I'd eat there once a week at least for the food and to keep such a great local establishment in business. Best Fish & Chips in Whitby 5 years running!
This is not a place I could personally eat at every day or every week. But if you are in the mood for something a bit greasy but a step up from fast food, head over to Captain George's. It's a typical fast food sit down restaurant, nothing too special but it's the service and food here that would keep you coming back. Our party ordered the halibut fish and chips and drinks. The food came promptly.The fish itself was pretty good. A really good portion and just enough batter to satisfy your craving for deep fried goodness. They make homemade tartar sauce here and it really complimented the light flaky fish. This place is worth a try but I don't think I would make it a regular eating place. What makes it a great spot is the service and the fact that the tables are kept clean and there seems to be a sense of pride in the place. Possibly because I think Captain George himself works at this location.

Went to get some fish and chips with my girlfriend,and much to my surprise there was a party going on.It was the owner George celebrating his victory in Ottawa.He just won a bodybuilding competition!WOW,if this guy eats at his place every day,and looks like that i'am going to do the same!!!!He told me that he uses non-hydrygenated oils for his food.Now i don't feel guilty when i'm eating it.He also gave me a food guide or nutritional information on fish and chips.And i was surprised to see how much better and healthier his food was to other fast food chains.Thanks again,great staff,great food,will be back for sure!!

For $12 it was a quality dining experience. You can't even get this at McDonald's for $12 and this was 1000 times better tasting and healthier. I can't wait to go for dinner and try out the haddock. No one has haddock anymore. Halibut may be the most popular, but haddock has a much richer taste. One of the other diners also suggested it to me while I was waiting in line.
Owner is very strict on quality of the food. Preparation is perfect, not over or under cooked.
Generous proportions and the owner and staff are quite courteous and helpfull.
Sometimes, line-ups are out the door, but the orders are processed quickly so it is not a long wait.

to go. We went, we ate, it was great. Going to be on my list of places to stop on future trips.
Not fancy, but good food, good portions, efficient, polite, friendly service. They have specials that go beyond the standard fish and chips.
