Moxie's Grill & Bar Gloucester Centre

I absolutely love to eat out, and do it a great deal. I have eaten at many fine dining restaurants throughout Ottawa. Over the last two years, each time I go out, I realize I cannot top this moxies. The food may not be considered fine dining, but it is very good. What makes up for it is the service. The staff at this location are fabulous. From the minute I walk in the door we are treated exceptionally. I have some food allergies, and they always treat me superbly and with the utmost care.

The server was good, other then that...terrible I ordered the 30$ steak and it looked like it cost 10$ it was super salty the baked potato had no flavour except for a lot a salt... my veggies....um where they even vegetables?! 4 burnt carrots..literally black inside...and for my husband he had nice frozen fries mixed with cooked fries...never had so much salt in 2 plates..honestly never coming back :( horrible horrible horrible!!

OMG!!! What a horrible place!!! Loud and uncomfortable... Not relaxing at all ..Food was either undercooked or overcooked or/and cold. I'm 26 and love music but this was not cool..soooooo loud. Who can have a normal conversation? I think they play it loud so you will leave fast so they can fill your seats with more customers. Like that is so ridiculous. Service was slow and it took the waiter 10 mimutes to bring me butter and a spoon. My coffee was luke warm by the time I got the sppon so I just left it. Our bill was very high and if we were happy that would not have mattered. None of us will be back.

last week my boyfriend and i went to moxie's after work. he chose the place because he wanted to sit on a patio. anyway. we waited around for a server, got our drinks, ordered, and everything was going well.. they brought me my broc & cheese soup, but without a spoon. i waited 20 minutes for the server to come back to get another+spoon, since mine was cold. my boyfriend got a fish & pasta dish. the pasta, in his own words was "so salty it was unpalatable" and his fish was raw. he hates complaining, and i never saw him do it til that night. the meal was removed from our bill.. the server told us "yeah, the kitchen has been screwing up a lot tonight!" which doesn't give us much confidence in the place..

We've been going there since it opened, always bar first and then meal. Usually a party of 4. The last time was in Feb for a belated Valentines dinner. the music was louder than usual but we could live with that. My meal was bad! The wrong order was brought and then sent back and the second time the steak was well done instead of med rare. The veggies were cold.Spent too much money for this . Sad thing is I wrote a letter to the manager and it was completely ignored.I wasn't looking for freebies, a letter of apology would have been satisfatory but I got nothing. That to me is so unprofessional and a turn off. We will never!! go there agian. We'll spend our hard earned money elsewhere.

One more thing I forgot to mention, the orders...

One more thing I forgot to mention, the orders were probably wrong because the waiter couldn't hear because of the LOUD music. The music doesn't have to be that loud. That is ridiculous!!! We couldn't even hear eachother talking.Writing notes to eachother and yelling back and forth isn't my idea of a nice night out.

Okay corporate restaurant

I visit this restaurant occasionally. I find the food rather good, especially considering it's a chain restaurant. I tend to visit smaller independent restaurants for their fresher more regional selections but Moxie's can offer something for everyone. I would say that I'm Moxie's target market, a young professional male in my 20s, but lately I find myself avoiding it simply because of the atmosphere. The more I go there the more I find the it obnoxious. The dance music is too loud. The servers, as nice as they are, are sometimes a little too cooperate, trying to push features and Moxie's size drinks. And the experience in the end, although the food is good, leaves me a little frustrated.

Met My Expectations...

I've been told great things about Moxie's, so I went with relatively high expectations to the Kanata location. What first struck me was the decor of the restaurant. Although it was very dark, it was very chic and trendy-looking, which was enjoyable. I would have liked more light around our table; the single overhead lamp barely allowed me to see my dinner-mate. Also, were it up to me, I'd lengthen the dresses and shorten the heels of the poor girls who hostess there... The food was absolutely delicious. The bread was served soft and warm, with lovely, fresh-tasting dips. The main courses were hot and delicious, and very generous portion sizes. The dessert was incredible:served piping hot with ice cold ice cream and a great presentation overall. The tea was also a nice touch. In general, it was a little pricier than what I normally go for, but it was definitely worth it. I plan to visit again.

My only complaint, and probably the reason that I would not return was the loud music. We asked twice to have it turned off, or at least turned down and this did not appear to happen. We simply could not talk in a comfortable manner, that is, without straining our necks to get close to a friend to hear the conversation. We looked around at the other clients and found that they were in the same situation. Why is it necessary to have music blaring during a meal? especially music with a loud, booming base? Quiet background music is calming and pleasant....but your style is most inappropriate and makes the time in your restaurant not as pleasant as the meal and service have the great potential of making it. I have to say that I would not return unless guaranteed that this situation would be rectified.

The restaurant is top notch. Service is above any other restaurant ive been to in Ottawa. The design is beautiful and the layout is unique. The food is delicious from beginning to end!! And despite what some say about the uniforms, the girls are all GORGEOUS, so good on them! awesome restaurant all around!!

The restaurant was extremely busy and we found a seat at the upstairs bar. The two bartenders were awesome and the food was fantastic, however, there was a manager (I believe the bar manager) who was extremely moody, did not return a "hello", slammed numerous drawers containing glasses and other items in front of our faces. During the hour and a half that we remained he did not only "not" speak to my wife or I, nor did I see him have any conversations with other patrons or even the two bar tenders.

Its rare that you can give 10 has a rating and I'm not exagerating. I've been to this restaurant twice now and I'm looking forward to introducing it to others tonight. Everyone I speak to are in AW! of this place. The decor is impressive, the atmosphere is cozy, the waiters know the menu and what to recommend its fun to see waiters who love what they do and are there to ensure you enjoy your meal, the service is top notch, the food is to die for all the way to the desserts. I highly recommend that you go but just so you know - you might get addicted to the place! The only thing I would change is the waitresses dress code - it downgrades the place and removes the classic part of the restaurant!

My server, Rachel, was awesome. She was so helpful and not the least bit snobbish (like Ive heard some servers are). She recommended tons of dishes, and changed them as to my specifications. She even asked if I was allergic to things I didnt want, just in case. What a fabulous experience!!!!

The server was outstanding, and the food was good too. Previous comments regarding the waitress unfirms are spot on. It's highly unfortunate that an inappropriate dress code spoils the environment and makes guests feel uncomfortable.

I heard so much about this place/location that I had to check it out so my expectations were immediately set to high. Upon entering, I was impressed with the decor. Whoever designed the interior did a great job..color scheme, layout and the women's washroom is definitely very nice although it smelled bad. I visited the ladies room twice during the night and each time, there was a bad ourder. The manager should consider an automatic air freshner dispenser. Not sure if they have one and it was broken or maybe they were having problems with piping or something. For an "upscale" establishment, they need to get some fresh air in the ladies room. The service was good. Very attentive and friendly. My friend and I ordered appetizers to start and my friends soup was very salty. My appetizer was good..can't go wrong with bread and dip but the plate it came looked as though everyone in that place took turns smearing their hands and fingerprints all over it. I'm not talking a fingerprint here and there, it was all over the plate. It was very gross and bizarre at the same time. I ordered the Lobster Linguini which is a Moxie's feature dish and recommended by the waiter. It was supposed to be a "creamy" garlic, tomato, white wine with asiago cheese sauce however it looked and tasted nothing more than watered down flavoured butter. It was not creamy at all. The seafood was small and skimpy. For a meal with a price tag of $15.99, it was not worth it at all. Very disappointed. My friend ordered the chicken penne carbonara and usually the chicken is cut up and mixed in with the sauce and pasta however, the chicken breast was placed on top and not cut up. Poor presentation and a rush job in my opinion. After my friend swirled her fork around a bit she pulled out a disgusting black hair from her pasta. Gross! We notified our waiter and he was good about it...apologetic, etc.. obviously not his fault however he did make a comment like "it happens". Um...not a good thing to say to your patrons especially to ones that have only been there for their first time. Thanks for the warning. A manager came over anf offered a free meal on the house but my friend had lost her appetite at that point. :/ She took a free drink instead. Dessert was recommended by the waiter and yet another disappointment. It wasn't bad but it definitely wasn't great. Obviously, this place is for those who are into appearances and want to be seen. That was my overall impression. If you are between the ages of 18 - 40 and like the clubbing scene, then you'll fit in. If you like classy establishments, quality food, and excellence, this place is not for you.
