In the past, patients interested in enhancing the look and function of their teeth, while also wanting to improve their overall facial appearance, had to make appointments with two different doctors. Over the years, cosmetic dentist Dr. Jan Roberts increasingly heard her patients say they were open to cosmetic work done by their dentist. She knew many of her patients didn’t want to go elsewhere in order to get facial rejuvenation treatments, which include cosmetic injectables such as Botox and Dysport, Intense Pulse Light therapy, and microdermabrasion, to name a few. “It truly is a natural fit for us,” says Jan.
Dr. Warren Roberts, Jan’s husband and partner, also recognized that dentists were qualified professionals who could take on these additional cosmetic services. “Dentists are very gifted in doing injections," Warren explains. "A new dental graduate does more injections in their first year than an average medical doctor does in their entire career. That means dentists are highly trained in pain-free injections, with little to no bruising or bleeding.”
Combining their specific talents, the husband-and-wife team decided to incorporate non-invasive facial treatments into their practice. In 2008 the couple launched A Smile Above,a warm and inviting boutique dental practice in Coal Harbour that offers cosmetic dentistry alongside facial rejuvenation services.
That same year, the couple founded the Pacific Training Institute for Facial Aesthetics (PTIFA). Jan and Warren regularly lead hands-on training courses for doctors and their teams to demonstrate how to achieve outstanding results for aesthetic and restorative cosmetic surgery. As of 2016, Warren is considered one of North America’s leading Botox educators, and the number one dental provider of Botox as well. Since 2008, he has trained well over 7,000 doctors nationally and internationally.
