Walking into Delish General Store on Granville Island feels like walking into a series of living, breathing Pinterest boards displaying heritage-inspired goods for home and life that are all about stepping away from convenience culture.
Take their “Bar Jar” for example. The beautiful display is “a mix-and-match one-stop-shop for all your mason jar pouring, storing and drinking needs,” says owner Tamara Komuniecki. Or there's their display of Portland Growler's gorgeous ceramic growlers. Or the vintage Pyrex Tamara finds at estate sales and thrift stores. Delish General Store is as aspirational as Pinterest but much more accessible. And three-dimensional.
Tamara's a journalist by training and Delish General Store grew out of her online publication Delish Magazine. The magazine is now shuttered, though archived editions live on, but it spawned an online store, which Tamara started by virtually stocking all the great products she'd sussed out for the magazine. She also would sell at markets and pop-ups but she always dreamed of opening a brick and mortar location. So when her friend Lorna, the woman behind the clothing boutique Bodacious, let her know there was a store coming available next to her on Granville Island, Tamara had to check it out. The space was a great match and Tamara opened Delish General Store in the summer of 2014.
