Since Suzanne Gergely was 13 years old she had a dream of owning her own hair salon. “I was cutting hair for everybody I knew," she recalls. "I tried perming hair and I loved it.” For some, life gets in the way of their childhood dreams, but Suzanne never let go of her vision. “My mom wanted me to go to university, so I did,” recalls Suzanne, who ended up with a degree in psychology. “I worked with street youth and prostitutes through Catholic Social Services, which was tough. It was hard. I didn’t know much about life and I just wanted to follow my passion.”
She then enrolled in hairdressing school, beginning her second career. Suzanne began working at a salon as a hairstylist, but she still wanted more. “I was driving to work, coming down 170 Street into St. Albert, and saw a 'for lease' sign for a business space,” she explains. “I grabbed a napkin and lip liner and wrote down the number, then called my husband Matt and asked him to check it out.” Suzanne received the keys to the place in October 2001 and opened Intemperance Hair & Body Studio on December 1st of the same year.
