Updates

  • Today, the Bank of Canada kept its policy rate unchanged at 2.75%, citing high uncertainty due to global trade tensions and the impact of tariffs. That means no immediate changes for variable rate mortgages or home equity lines of credit.   While Q1 GDP growth was slightly stronger than forecast (2.2%), rising unemployment (now at 6.9%) and slower housing activity are signs the economy is cooling.    What’s next? The Bank is in wait-and-see mode, watching for whether tariffs will push inflation back up or if slower growth will lead to interest rate cuts later this year.

  • Volunteering isn’t just something we do, it’s part of who we are. At Meridian, our Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) empower teams to lead with purpose, connect through shared values, and give back to the communities that matter most to them. In 2024, our employees logged over 5,198 volunteer hours, supporting 445 Canadian charities and non-profits. Through donation matching and volunteer credit programs, every hour and every effort makes a lasting impact. During National Volunteer Week, we're proud to celebrate our ERG leaders and volunteers who remind us that showing up for our communities isn’t reserved for one week. It’s a mindset that lives here all year long
