The two young artists that design and make the printed tea towels, napkins, aprons, pillows, scarves, prints, pennants and original drawings on offer at Freshly Printed Studios got their charming little business off the ground in the best possible way: as friends. “Lauren and I met at art school and immediately became inseparable,” says artist Jen Kneulman of her business partner Lauren Hunter.
Examining their work lovingly displayed on rustic wooden shelving in their little studio and shop in Toronto’s Distillery District, it’s easy to see that these two share a visual aesthetic. “Some people call it Canadiana,” says Jen of the designs that decorate their wares: mason jars, snowshoes, vintage lanterns and detailed drawings of worn driftwood. “Our work is so complementary,” says Jen. “It just seemed rational that we should be working together.”
