Silvia and George Cuccovillo came to Toronto from Uruguay in 1988 with significant language barriers and no communication skills. Soon, Silvia found work as a cleaning lady, while George began working on construction sites. Several years of hard labour and language classes gave Silvia the chance to give up her job as a cleaner and acquire certifications in property maintenance.
This led her to the position as a property manager for 1,000 units in a commercial building in Toronto. While this was a career boost for Silvia, it was still not enough to support their growing family and George started taking painting jobs to supplement their income. With a steady stream of clients coming in through painting opportunities, the husband and wife duo stumbled upon their calling.
“It was a difficult time for us, but it made us realize how much we loved painting houses!” says Silvia. Together, they decided to start their own business, The Painters Group, in 1998. The simplicity of their business’ tagline — We Love What We Do! — conveys their team’s infectious enthusiasm for all things painting. This enthusiasm has helped them build a strong repertoire of loyal customers.
