Very friendly service and good atmosphere. Food is always a treat to eat. My husband always gets a good Greek coffee. If you save room, the baklava is superb.
I was very disappointed with the meal received from Greektown. I wanted to order from Minos, but they weren't open for another 30 mins and I couldn't wait. Big mistake! My sister thought I was just picking up a greek salad for us. She was horrified when she saw that I had ordered the chicken. It was horrible - so dry that neither of us could eat it. My sister said it was like that when she ordered the same thing about 6 months ago. She would have stopped me if she had known. About the only safe thing to order is the salad. And I have never seen such a little tiny bun to come with a larger order like that. Minos Barrie takeout pretty much loads your car with bags of everything - their food is always excellent, and prices are more reasonable. I could have gotten a lot more for my $34 there. So disappointed. Never again - I'd rather eat at Macdonalds.
I have visited this restaurant a number of times now and time and time again the food is exceptional. My husband order the shish kebob which was cook just as order which many restarants have a hard time doing and I had the pasta carbonada. The creamy sauce was unlike anything I have ever tasted, amazing! Oreo cheesecake, Wow! I'm continuously impressed at the cleanliness of this place.
Yes, the owners are formerly from Mino's. That's not a secret. GreekTown far exceeds Mino's by consistenly getting our orders right, week after week, including all of the exceptions or modifications we ask for. In fact, that's the reason we stopped going to Mino's because they were forever getting things mixed up or wrong. New favourites at GreekTown over the past few months: the carbonara (WOW!), anything with mushroom wine sauce (which they will happily offer on the side even if it's not listed that way in the menu) and the stuffed pork loin special (with spinach and feta). We are consistently impressed with the lasagna, which is a huge portion loaded with cheese and homemade sauce for $7.80 including tax. Classically-trained baker Chris is currently serving a regional twist on baklava (yanniotika?) that is partly regular phyllo and partly shredded phyllo, which has a very soft and delicate taste to it. Amazing! As someone mentioned below, the pizza is fantastic. Try #7, which is a Greek pizza with feta AND mozerella. Love it! GreekTown consistenly offers excellent service, a warm welcoming atmosphere and great food for a fantastic price. They're also beating Go Italian next door on consistency hands-down.
This was my first visit to this takeout, late one evening after my daughters soccer game. we had company coming over and nothing to eat. The nice lady working recommended their combo 7 and my god what an amazing selection of food for just $60 taxes included. The whole chicken was so moist and tasty, the souvlaki was perect with tzatziki the best I've ever had. Freshly chopped potatos with lemon and oregano taste, perfectly steamed rice seasoned just right and fall of the bone ribs. Let me tell you about the part the kids loved the most..... THE PIZZA!!!!! this is Greektown's best kept secret. These people don't give themselves enough credit. This food was amazing, we will go back again and again. You will be please at the cleanliness of the store and the staff are happy and super friendly.
Let me start off by saying that I absolutely love greek food so I decided to try Greektown Takeout although I am a frequent minos costumer. I was impressed my the presentation of the place, it was clean, nice and organized and then I opened the menu and it hit me, this was a complete knock off of all the minos', the fact that it is across the street says something on its own but more about that later, however I ordered (off the pricey menu) and waited. When I got home we opened the containers and started to eat, we found our souvlaki not that great and kind of burnt and the marinating tasted as if they were using spices from the dollar store, my sister had the mousaka and wasn't too fond of it saying that it was cold in the middle. The service : It was okay. A gentleman seeming to be a manager or owner sat at one of the high stool table seeming to put on an "above everyone else attitude" but the girl behind the counter seemed nice! so after visiting greektown although I did not hate it I found it to be nothing special and that maybe I would visit it again until I found out this bit of information, that the people that own the greektown use to work for the owners of Minos and they pretty much ripped off the menu, opened up across the street from the takeout/restaurant, and have no ideas of their own! To me this shows no class and will not be ordering from them again as I anyway do prefer minos the original greek restaurant who has been serving me for over 15 years and where I will continue to take my business! I will say that the greektown baklava is superb!
Still a favourite, we visit at least 1-2 times a week. In addition to SaucyS's comment - the chocolate mousse/meringue was incredible, had it a couple of weeks ago. Also discovered the strawberry cheesecake is the single best I've had outside of Swiss Pastries in Ottawa. Chris cooks it for 6.5 HOURS and it is light, gorgeous, sinful, decadent with homemade glaze. A-Maz-ing. The other day they had a specialty (revani) made of semolina and syrup which was simple and lovely, slightly less sweet compared to the great baklava. I can see how that would be a family favourite, Keep up the great work, you guys are the best!
Wasn't expecting too much since I had thought Mino's was the best in town since one hears about it a great deal. I tried Minos a long time ago and I don't remember it standing out necessarially. Greektown did stand out to me. Don't know if it was because I wasn't expecting much. Had the chicked souvlaki - the greek salad is extra (I think $1?) but it's a big portion so might be worth it. I did notice that the prices tend to be slightly higher than Minos. It's $10 here + $1 extra for the greek salad. I believe Minos is $9 and it comes with a greek salad. Also, got dessert - they have quite the assortment including choices like creme brulee (hard shell). I ended up getting this chocolate custard/meringue dessert that was awesome. most of their desserts are about $4. My husband had the cannoli and could not stop raving about it for weeks afterwards. They do have a eat in part but it's not very big and doesn't really have much ambience.
This is a huge favourite for us, we order from here at least once a week and sometimes 3-4 times! The staff are friendly, sincere, welcoming and very attentive to all details and substitutions. The food is extremely fresh and consistent, week after week. Our favourites include: - all the regular sides such as greek, caesar and garden salads, rice - the hot mixed vegetables are unique and we love them (green, yellow and kidney beans) - all the gorgeous appetizers (taramosalata and beautiful flaky cheesy spanakopita and tiropita) - pork brizoles - gyro pita - fantastic flavour! - chicken oreganati - good luck making something this good at home with all the side dishes for less than their price! - garlic shrimp - pork or chicken souvlaki - lasagna - Greek dressing to go (bottle) The pizza is excellent - great flavourful sauce, perfect crust, cheesy, nice toppings esp. the greek pizza. Best in town! The dessert selection is outstanding and includes several core items as well as other treats by one of the owners who specializes in pastry. Bird's nest and regular backlavas are awesome - sweet, nutty but not overdoing it. The flaky shredded phyllo one shown in the menu when they have it is even better - ridiculously good taste and mouth feel. The galactobureko is light and indulgent. The chocolate cakes are incredible. The only two critiques we have are simply a matter of preferences. not quality. The oven roasted potatoes are not lemony style as they are at other Greek restaurants. However, at GreekTown, they are still very tasty just different. Also, the sauce used for the lasagna and spaghetti has something unique about it - nutmeg? ground cinnamon? Just not my thing though definitely homemade and very good for those who like the slight variation. Angelo, Georgia and all the staff at GreekTown make everyone feel welcomed and the food is consistently worth every penny. We enjoy Greek Islands very much for sit-down but GreekTown is just a smidge better and certainly miles ahead of Mino's in taste, price and overall value. Make life easier and call ahead for pick up, especially weekday and weekend evenings after 5:00. However, if you do have to wait, there are free mini baklavas to keep you smiling and the staff will make you feel at home.
service was ok but the food iis great and thats all that matters!!!!!!!!!! near our place and we always pickup takeout. I definaltey recommend. Go check it out!
