great authentic indian food and the view is best in town kababs are best in town
Good food, terrible service. We were ignored for probably 15 minutes upon arrival, then had to chase down a server to place a drink order. Apparently they're used to people helping themselves to the beer cooler, because none of the other drinks ever arrived. Water wasn't filled until a half hour after we had eaten. Finally, as we were leaving, someone asked if we wanted coffee or tea. Really?? After basically no service I was left to pay an automatic gratuity.
Overall A Disappointing Experience My guest and I were looking forward to a great Indian experience. Previously, we have both dined at another location of this local chain for lunch and enjoyed ourselves immensely. On this particular evening our expectations were short chained. Upon arrival it was apparent that the restaurant must had just complete their dinner rush. There was no host/hostess at the door to welcome you; we were escorted to dirty table (most tables were vacant and dirty). The buffet was almost barren; what was available was dried-out and picked-over. That it was still within the prime evening dinner period made this particularly sad. Service was almost non-existent; we had to ask for cutlery, napkins and beverages. Even when paying the bill, no-one seemed to be available to take our money.
Wow! This place is awesome! The first time I visited the place I mistook it for a Chinese restaurant and I really felt like Chinese that night so I didn't order. But we returned, a group of 4, for the buffet. It was fantastic. Every selection was good. I can't comment on its authenticity but it was good. My favorite thing on the buffet was this mixture of vegetables in a dark sauce that is separate from the rest.. it lies on this circular wide wok-like warmer with a light over it. I think it's meant as a general topping for the rice or naan. I think the buffet cost us 25$ but you get a lot for 25$. Be careful, we came out over full. It's easy to eat too much because the place has a lot of stuff. They have a chocolate fountain with a selection of fruits for dessert along with cakes and pies. It *is* as good as it looks!
If you love Indian food, you will leave New Asian Village sated. The service is very friendly but a little sporadic and manic at times, seems as though they need a few more servers. The best thing to have is the buffet, the lentil soup is the best I have ever had. I do wish the chefs would not abuse cilantro so much, this is a very pungent flavour and stays on the palate for many hours, it is to be used more sparingly. The ambience is lovely, wonderful decor that they did not skimp on, they just need to bring that type of extravagance to the serving aspect.
The buffet looked a little iffy, but we ordered off the menu and were very happy with the results. The onion bajis were wonderful. The tangy-sweet ipping sauce was a good counterpoint to the tender onion fritters. The naan bread was properly charred in the oven and the different flavours were all worth a try. The curried cauliflower and dal were delicately spiced with an eye to balanced flavours. The butter chicken was heaven on a plate, whether enjoyed over rice or with naan. The beef vindaloo was nice and hot but still carried beautiful flavours which developed beautifully over plain rice. Service was slow, but polite and pleasant. The ambiance was calming, despite the busyness of the restaurant. All in all, a good experience which I would happily repeat.
